Versions It has 2 versions: Version 9 and Version 10. It has 2 versions: Version 11 and Version 12. It contains field -test questions so that more versions can be added in the future.

Locator For Language and Reading, there are 12 questions. For Math, there are 16 questions. For all of the subjects, there are 16 questions.  For reading, in particular, there are two-part questions.
Subject Tests It has 7 subjects: Mathematics Computation, Applied Mathematics, Reading, Language, Vocabulary, Language Mechanics, and Spelling. It has 3 subjects: Mathematics, Reading, and Language.
Test Length  It has two forms. The Complete Battery for the long-form while for the short form it is the Survey. It has one form with approximately 40 questions in each subject.

Test Time It takes 10 to 50 minutes, but it depends on the test. It means that it has at least 1 minute per question. For Math, at least 75 minutes, for Reading at least 20 minutes, and for Language at least 85 minutes. It means that it has at least 2 to 3 minutes per question.

What the TABE Test Measures and How It's Scored

The TABE test (Test of Adult Basic Education) assesses reading, language, and mathematics skills for adult learners entering GED programs, vocational training, or workforce development. The current TABE 11/12 version delivers scaled scores from 300-800 across five difficulty levels (L, E, M, D, A), placing test-takers into Adult Basic Education (ABE) levels 1-6 that correspond to grade equivalents from beginning literacy through advanced secondary.

TABE Test Sections and Time Limits

The full battery includes Reading (50 items, 75 minutes), Mathematics (40 computation + 40 applied items, 105 minutes total), and Language (55 items, 55 minutes). A locator test first determines which difficulty level you take, so practicing across multiple levels prepares you regardless of placement.
