What is the OMVIC Compensation Fund?
The Motor Vehicle Dealers Compensation Fund (MVDCF) is a consumer-protection fund paid for by Ontario's dealers and administered through OMVIC. It reimburses eligible car buyers who suffered a proven financial loss on a purchase, lease or consignment with an OMVIC-registered dealer, up to $45,000 per vehicle transaction. Claims must be filed within two years of the issue; private sales and vehicles bought for business purposes are not covered.
