A New Jersey Non-Driver ID is valid for 4 years. After that period, the ID must be renewed either online or in person, depending on eligibility and the type of ID (standard or REAL ID).
Any New Jersey resident who does not hold a driver’s license Explanation: New Jersey offers Non-Driver IDs to any resident, regardless of age, as long as they do not possess a valid driver’s license. This includes minors, adults, and seniors who require official identification but do not drive.
A REAL ID-compliant Non-Driver ID can be used for domestic air travel and access to federal facilities, but a standard Non-Driver ID will not be sufficient for these purposes starting May 7, 2025. Applicants need to request a REAL ID version if they intend to use it for travel.
The NJ MVC uses a 6-point identification system. Applicants must provide documents that total at least 6 points, including at least one primary document (e.g., passport, birth certificate) and proof of address (e.g., utility bill, lease agreement).
The standard fee for a Non-Driver ID is $24. However, seniors (age 62 and older) are eligible for a reduced fee of $10, and certain applicants with disabilities may qualify for a free Non-Driver ID.
