What the FCP is and how it works

According to Fortinet Training Institute (Fortinet, Inc.), with exams delivered by Pearson VUE, “Scoring method: Answers must be 100% correct for credit. No partial credit is given. There are no deductions for incorrect answers.”^[3]

The Fortinet Training Institute awards the FCP Security Operations certification. You don't get it from one exam. You must pass the NSE 4 exam and one NSE 5 exam within 2 years. NSE 4 is the FortiOS 7.6 Administrator exam: 50–55 questions in 100 minutes. One NSE 5 option is FortiAnalyzer 7.6 Analyst: 30–35 questions in 65 minutes. Fortinet's FCP Security Operations page on training.fortinet.com has the current list of NSE 5 exams that count, so check it there.

Pearson VUE delivers the exams, either at a test center or online through OnVUE. Each exam costs $200 until Nov 2, 2026, and $210 from Nov 2, 2026. You pay for NSE 4 and your NSE 5 exam separately.

Exams are scored pass/fail. You only get credit for a question if your answer is 100% correct. There is no partial credit, and wrong answers cost you nothing, so answer every question. Your score report appears in your Pearson VUE account, and your badge arrives within 5 business days.

If you fail, you must wait 15 days before you try again. You cannot retake an exam you have already passed. The certification is valid for 2 years. To renew, take the recertification assessment if your last proctored exam is less than 2 years old. Otherwise, take the proctored exam again. 2. Take a baseline. Do the FCP practice test once without notes and write down the topics you missed.
3. Work by topic. For firewall and FortiOS ground, use Network Security Fundamentals and Fortinet Solutions, Security Policy Management, Access Control and Identity and Cryptography and PKI. For log analysis and SOC work, use FortiAnalyzer and Log Management, Threat Detection and Incident Response and Security Automation (SOAR).
4. Read every explanation, including for questions you got right. Check anything unclear in Fortinet documentation or a lab.
5. Practise under time. NSE 4 allows 100 minutes for 50–55 questions. FortiAnalyzer Analyst allows 65 minutes for 30–35 questions.
6. Book with the rules in mind. There is a 15-day wait after a failed attempt, and you have 2 years to pass both exams.
