The WRONG WAY sign may or may not be posted with the DO NOT ENTER sign. If you see one or both of these signs, drive to the side of the road and stop. You are going against traffic. When safe, back out or turn around and return to the road you were on. At night if you are going the wrong way, the road reflectors will shine red in your headlights.
SIDE ROAD. Side road enters highway from right. One of the warning intersection traffic signs that can help you navigate an approaching intersection.
DIVIDED HIGHWAY BEGINS. The highway ahead is split into two separate roadways by a median or divider and each roadway is one-way. Keep to the right.
HOSPITAL. An example of a service sign. These signs are square or rectangular and are blue with white letters or symbols. They show the location of various services.
Yellow and black tells you that this is a warning sign. This is the only pennant-shaped warning sign. This sign marks the beginning of a no-passing zone and is placed on the left side of the road facing the driver.
KEEP RIGHT. The sign marks a traffic island or a highway divider and it warns you to stay to the right of the obstacle. When this sign is installed at a highway, it may also be accompanied by the "DIVIDED HIGHWAY BEGINS" yellow warning sign.
The bicycle crossing sign provides you with an early warning that the road you are traveling on will have a bicycle crossing up ahead. Slow down and be on the look-out for cyclists entering and exiting the road. Remember the rules of sharing the road with cyclists.
DIVIDED HIGHWAY ENDS. The divided highway on which you are traveling ends ahead. You will then be on a roadway with two-way traffic. Keep to the right.
CROSSROAD. One of the intersection traffic signs. Another road crosses the highway ahead. Look left and right for other traffic. Be alert for cross traffic and regulatory signals.
CENTER TURN LANE. The center lane is shared for left turns in both directions of travel. Traveling or passing in the center turn lane is forbidden.
The shape of a diamond is reserved exclusively for warning drivers of existing or possible hazards on roadways and adjacent areas. Diamond-shaped signs are either warning signs or work zone traffic signs.
TRAFFIC SIGNAL AHEAD. Traffic signals are present at intersection ahead. Slow down; the signal may not be immediately visible.
Orange construction signs tell you that you are approaching a work zone on the freeway. The road may narrow, there may be a flagger controlling traffic, workers and machinery may be on or near the freeway. Be prepared to meet all these challenges and do not speed. Keep ample distance between yourself and the vehicle in front of you to avoid a rear-end collision.
The railroad crossbuck sign is placed at railroad crossings where the tracks cross the roadway. The crossbuck sign can be treated in the same manner as a YIELD sign: slow down, listen for trains and be prepared to stop if you see or hear a train approaching.
NO U-TURN. This sign prohibits U-turns. Do not make a complete turn to go in the opposite direction.
Added lane. Merging is not required, you may continue moving in your lane. Stay vigilant and watch for vehicles that may merge into your lane.
The road ahead changes direction at an extreme angle. Before you reach such an extreme curve, slow down as much as you would to make a turn at an intersection.
SHOULDER DROP OFF. The SHOULDER DROP OFF sign is used where the shoulder is more than three inches below the level of the road. If you stray off the roadway and one wheel drops off onto a low shoulder or a soft shoulder, do not slam on the brakes of steer sharply to try to get back onto the roadway – you can easily lose control of your vehicle!
The divided highway on which you are traveling ends 350 to 500 feet ahead. You will then be on a roadway with two-way traffic. Keep to the right of approaching traffic.
A diamond-shaped sign on a truck means that the load on the truck is potentially dangerous (gas, explosives, etc.). Police department and fire department officers know what to do if the load is accidentally spilled. Vehicles which display these signs are required to stop before crossing railroad tracks.
