The Wyoming Secretary of State commissions notaries public. Applicants show they understand the duties of the office by answering questions about notarial practice. Those questions appear in the application itself, so the exam is a paper test and not a separate computer-based sitting.

The test has 20 true/false questions. At least 14 correct answers, which is 70%, are required for a passing grade. Because every question is true/false, careful reading matters a great deal. A single word such as "always" or "never" can change the answer.

You can also skip that section of the application. If you have already completed the education and examination through an approved vendor, you include your certificate of completion with the application instead of taking the paper exam.

The filing fee is $60. The Secretary of State asks for a check or money order payable to the Wyoming Secretary of State, and credit cards are not accepted. A commission is valid for a 6-year term.
