Question 1

Which agency in the United States sets and enforces workplace safety and health standards, including requirements for emergency action plans?

Accepted Answer

OSHA

Answer

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) sets and enforces workplace safety and health standards. The EEOC handles discrimination, the Wage and Hour Division enforces the FLSA, and the IRS handles taxes.

Question 2

An office manager is arranging a new workstation. Which setup best follows ergonomic principles for computer use?

Accepted Answer

Monitor top at or slightly below eye level, feet supported, and forearms roughly parallel to the floor

Answer

Proper ergonomics keeps the neck neutral, the wrists straight, the forearms parallel to the floor and the feet supported. This reduces strain injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome and neck pain.

Question 3

During a fire alarm, what is the office manager's most appropriate first priority?

Accepted Answer

Ensure people evacuate by the designated routes to the assembly point

Answer

Life safety comes first. Staff and visitors should follow posted evacuation routes to the assembly point, avoid elevators, and be accounted for. Files and equipment are secondary.

Question 4

Which practice best improves physical security at a reception area?

Accepted Answer

Requiring visitors to sign in, show identification and wear a visitor badge

Answer

A sign-in log, ID check and visitor badges control who enters the facility, give a record of who is on site, and make unauthorized people easier to spot.

Question 5

What is the main purpose of a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) in an office or facility?

Accepted Answer

To give information on the hazards, handling and emergency measures for a chemical product

Answer

An SDS describes a chemical's hazards, safe handling and storage, and first-aid and spill response. Employers must keep SDSs accessible for the hazardous chemicals in the workplace, including cleaning products.
