The Kentucky Paraeducator Assessment (KPA) is a required certification exam for instructional aides seeking employment in Kentucky public school districts. Mandated under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), the KPA verifies that paraeducators possess the foundational academic competencies needed to support classroom instruction effectively.
The KPA is divided into three content areas: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. Mathematics: The math section tests practical numeracy skills. Topics include whole number operations, fraction and decimal arithmetic, percentage calculations, ratio and proportion problems, introductory algebraic expressions and equations, and reading data from charts, tables, and graphs. A basic calculator may be permitted depending on the testing vendor — check your testing notice for current policy.
