Question 1

Which of the following is the meaning of the word "mental"?

Accepted Answer

Chin

Answer

In anatomical terminology, the word 'mental' specifically refers to the chin. This term is derived from the Latin word 'mentum,' which means chin. Therefore, any anatomical structures or regions described as mental are associated with the chin area of the face.

Question 2

Which of the following leg muscle groups enables one to stand on one's toes?

Accepted Answer

Plantarflexors

Answer

Standing on one's toes involves the action of plantarflexion, which is the movement that points the foot downwards. The muscle group primarily responsible for this action is the plantarflexors, which include the gastrocnemius and soleus muscles located in the calf. These muscles contract to lift the heel off the ground.

Question 3

The body is divided into ____ by a coronal plane.

Accepted Answer

ventral and dorsal

Answer

A coronal, or frontal, plane divides the body into anterior (ventral) and posterior (dorsal) portions. This imaginary plane runs vertically, perpendicular to the sagittal plane. It effectively separates the front of the body from the back, providing a fundamental anatomical orientation.

Question 4

Which of the following is not a muscle group that makes up the quadriceps?

Accepted Answer

Biceps femoris

Answer

The quadriceps femoris muscle group consists of four distinct muscles: the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, and vastus intermedius. The biceps femoris, however, is one of the three muscles that form the hamstrings, located on the posterior aspect of the thigh. Therefore, it is not considered a part of the quadriceps.

Question 5

Which of the following is not a rotator cuff muscle?

Accepted Answer

Teres major

Answer

The rotator cuff is a group of four muscles crucial for stabilizing the shoulder joint: the supraspinatus, infraspinatus, teres minor, and subscapularis (often remembered by the acronym SITS). The teres major muscle, while located near the shoulder, is not part of this group. Its primary function is adduction and internal rotation of the arm, but it does not contribute to rotator cuff stability.
