Small labeled circle. Used to continue a flowchart across pages or to reduce crossing lines on a complex diagram. Both ends use the same letter or number. Skip these unless your chart genuinely needs them โ they often confuse more than they help.
Here's where Excel quietly outclasses dedicated diagram tools for everyday use. The grid is already there. The cells are already aligned. You just have to tell Excel to respect them.
First, turn on Snap to Grid and Snap to Shape. Both live under Page Layout โ Align โ Snap to Grid / Snap to Shape. With Snap to Grid on, every shape you drag locks to the nearest cell boundary. With Snap to Shape on, shapes snap to the edges and centers of other shapes nearby. Hold Alt while dragging to override the snap if you need precise placement.

To apply color, right-click any shape and choose Format Shape. The Fill tab has Solid Color, Gradient, Pattern, and Picture options.
