RCA Searching & Indexing (Keyword, dtSearch, Saved Searches, Search Terms Reports)

Question 1

Which dtSearch syntax finds documents where "contract" appears within 5 words of "breach"?

Accepted Answer

contract w/5 breach

Answer

dtSearch writes proximity as w/N, so "contract w/5 breach" means within 5 words of each other.

Question 2

New documents were added to a workspace, but a dtSearch index created last week does not return hits from them. What should the administrator do?

Accepted Answer

Run an incremental build of the dtSearch index

Answer

A dtSearch index only contains the documents that were in its searchable set when it was last built. An incremental build adds new or changed documents without rebuilding the whole index.

Question 3

A reviewer wants a saved search's results to also return the attachments and parent emails of every matching document. Which saved search setting does this?

Accepted Answer

Includes: Family

Answer

The related-items option (Includes) in a saved search can be set to Family, which adds family members such as parents and attachments of the hits to the results.

Question 4

What is the main purpose of a Search Terms Report?

Accepted Answer

To show hit counts for a list of terms against a set of documents

Answer

A Search Terms Report runs a list of terms against a searchable set and reports how many documents hit on each term. Teams use it to negotiate and refine search terms.

Question 5

Why might a dtSearch query for a common word such as "the" return no results?

Accepted Answer

The word is on the index's noise word list

Answer

dtSearch indexes leave out the words on their noise word list. Searches for those words return nothing.
