Most nursing programs require a 2.5–3.5 GPA, completion of prerequisite courses (anatomy, physiology, microbiology, statistics), and passing the TEAS exam. Some programs also require CNA certification, letters of recommendation, and volunteer or healthcare work experience.

ADN programs take 2–3 years. BSN programs take 4 years. Accelerated BSN programs for those with a non-nursing bachelor's degree take 12–18 months. RN-to-BSN bridge programs for working RNs take 1–2 years.

The NCLEX is the standardized exam nursing graduates must pass to become licensed as an RN or LPN. It uses computerized adaptive testing (CAT) and tests clinical judgment across multiple categories.

Most nursing programs require 500–1,000 clinical hours. ADN programs typically require 500–700 hours, while BSN programs require 700–1,000 hours.
