- Missouri (DHSS): the CMT course is at least 60 classroom hours plus a minimum of 8 hours of supervised clinical practice; you must be active on the Missouri CNA Registry and employed as a CNA for at least 6 months before enrolling (the TABE reading/math test was dropped on April 1, 2019). - Missouri (19 CSR 30-84.020): the final written CMT exam is 50 multiple-choice questions with a passing score of 80%, followed by a practicum exam of at least 2 hours; your CMT listing goes inactive whenever your CNA certification lapses. (source)
- Maryland (Board of Nursing): the Medication Technician course is a 20-hour Board-approved program (minimum age 18); initial certification costs $20 and renewal costs $30 every two years, expiring on the 28th of your birth month. (source)
- Maryland renewal: you need 100 hours of CMT practice in the two years before renewal plus a Board-approved Clinical Update completed within 90 days before the certificate expires; a 30-day grace period applies after expiration. (source)
- Virginia (Board of Nursing): registration by examination requires a Board-approved 68-hour Medication Aide training program completed within the past two years, a $50 application fee, and the PSI-administered competency exam; first-time applications are accepted online only. (source)
- Virginia fee schedule effective March 11, 2026 (18VAC90-60-30): $50 initial registration, $30 annual renewal, $15 late fee, $90 reinstatement; the PSI exam fee is paid separately to the vendor. (source)
