Bachelor of Computer Engineering Abbreviation

A bachelor of computer engineering (abbreviated to BE Computer Engineering or BS CompE) is an undergraduate degree that teaches about the design, development and manufacture of computers and computer-based systems. Students learn about several fields of electrical engineering and computer science, and often receive a general education that prepares them for higher studies at the graduate level.

The program focuses on developing vital computing technologies that are fundamental to many areas of modern science and industry. It addresses the challenges of building scalable, trustworthy computing infrastructures, and its faculty research interests range from atomic-scale circuits to planet-scale critical infrastructures.

In their senior design project, students work with an industry partner to develop and prototype a real-world product or solution. They may choose to focus on a specific area of computer engineering, or they may design a system that uses multiple components. In addition, students take part in a capstone course that allows them to apply their knowledge in an applied environment. This course is usually three quarters long and consists of two parts. Bachelor of Electrical and Computer Engineering

Computer engineering is a fast-growing discipline devoted to developing vital computing technologies, from chips to computers to networks to programming tools and key algorithms. Students in the BS program take courses that provide a comprehensive understanding of both digital hardware and software, plus a solid foundation in the basic sciences of physics and chemistry. The curriculum also includes 17 labs, which give students experience working with professionals in the industry.

The first two years build a strong foundation in object-oriented programming, data structures and computer architecture. The junior year introduces advanced topics such as computer networking, security and real-time operating systems. The senior year allows students to specialize in their areas of interest by selecting courses from a number of tracks.

The BS degree program provides a balance of theoretical fundamentals and hands-on experiences in a small class setting. Courses include electronic design, VLSI (Very Large Scale Integration) design and circuits, digital signal processing and image processing, biomedical instrumentation, microprocessors/embedded systems/FPGAs, wireless networks, computer-aided design, and more. In addition, students complete university, college and department degree requirements.
