A 'direct' order is a clear, unambiguous command. In a military emergency evacuation, the order would be straightforward and immediate, not reluctant, gradual, or casual.
2. A student is struggling with a new concept. The teacher says, "Don't worry, we'll go over it again. I don't want you to be at sea." What does the teacher mean by "at sea"?
The idiom "at sea" means to be confused, bewildered, or unsure about what to do, similar to how a sailor might feel if lost on the ocean without direction.
3. The reference section of the library contains _______ that cannot be checked out.
'Materials' refers to books, documents, and other resources available for use. Reference materials must stay in the library for all students to access.
4. Identify the correct use of modals.
