1. PHILANTHROPIST : CHARITY :: MISER : ___
A philanthropist is known for charity (giving), while a miser is known for hoarding (keeping everything).
2. decrease : increase ::
The analogy 'decrease : increase' establishes an antonym relationship, where the two words have opposite meanings. To decrease is the opposite of to increase. Similarly, 'shallow : deep' presents a pair of antonyms, as shallow is the opposite of deep in terms of vertical extent.
3. A student has an average score of 85 on three tests. If the student scores a 97 on the fourth test, what is the new average for all four tests?
First, find the total points from the first three tests. An average of 85 on three tests means the total score is 3 * 85 = 255. Next, add the fourth test score to this total: 255 + 97 = 352. To find the new average, divide the new total by the number of tests, which is now four: 352 / 4 = 88.
4. A square has a side length of 5. | Quantity A: The length of a diagonal of the square | Quantity B: 7
Diagonal = 5√2 ≈ 7.07, which is greater than 7, so Quantity A is greater.
5. Column A: 15% of 200. Column B: 25% of 120. Which is greater?
Column A: 0.15 × 200 = 30; Column B: 0.25 × 120 = 30; both equal 30.
6. A pie chart shows 25% of students prefer math, 40% science, 20% English, and 15% history. If there are 200 students, how many prefer science?
40% of 200 = 0.40 × 200 = 80 students.
