✍️ Sample PRAXIS Questions & Answers
1. They hopped down off the table; and went to go pick up the napkins.
The original sentence incorrectly uses a semicolon before the coordinating conjunction "and." When "and" connects two verb phrases that share the same subject ("They hopped... and went..."), no punctuation is needed before the conjunction. A semicolon is used to separate independent clauses or items in a complex list, which is not the case here. Removing the semicolon creates a grammatically correct and concise sentence.
2. Him and his sister ran and ran, but they could not seem to get away from the pack of dogs."
The original sentence incorrectly uses the objective pronoun "Him" as part of the compound subject. As subjects of a sentence, pronouns should be in the nominative case, so "He" is required instead of "Him." The correct phrasing would be "He and his sister."
3. What are the three states of matter, and what distinguishes them at the molecular level?
The three common states of matter differ in how their particles are arranged and how much energy they have: solids (tightly packed, vibrate in place), liquids (close but mobile), gases (far apart, move freely).
4. What does it mean to make an inference from an informational text?
Inference involves reading between the lines — using stated evidence plus prior knowledge to draw conclusions not explicitly stated.
5. Which of the following is an example of a producer in an ecosystem?
Producers (also called autotrophs) make their own food through photosynthesis. Grass is a producer — it converts sunlight, water, and CO₂ into glucose.
6. Which sentence corrects the pronoun-antecedent agreement? "The faculty submitted their reports, but it was late."
Treating "faculty" as plural members, the pronoun "they" and verb "were" agree.
