Taking the FCTC (Firefighter Candidate Testing Center) test is a rite of passage for those interested in a career in the fire service. The test is composed of 100 multiple-choice questions about two and a half hours long. The test is broken into four sections. The test is a good indicator of the candidate's knowledge of the fire service. This is a good thing, since the job requires that a candidate possess the requisite skills, such as being able to safely operate a fire engine, and a smattering of other essentials.
The actual test itself is fairly straightforward, and the only drawback is the aforementioned time constraint. A candidate would be well advised to enroll in a class offered by FCTC. This is a two-hour in-person session for a nominal fee. Aside from the actual test, a candidate would also be eligible for a free study guide courtesy of FCTC.
