Question: A customer signs a contract to purchase a new vehicle. Two days later, they experience 'buyer's remorse' and want to cancel the deal. What is the general rule in Ontario regarding this situation?

1. The customer has a mandatory 48-hour 'cooling-off period' to cancel any contract.
2. The contract can be cancelled without penalty if the vehicle has not yet been delivered.
3. There is no general 'cooling-off period' for vehicle contracts in Ontario, and the sale is considered final once signed.
4. The customer can cancel but will automatically forfeit their entire deposit, regardless of the amount.

Explanation:

Georgian College's Automotive Business School of Canada (ABSC) delivers the official Automotive Certification Course and test, but it does not publish a mock exam, so the free questions on this page are the closest match to the real format: 60 multiple-choice questions, 90 minutes, open book with the hard-copy student manual, and a minimum of 80 per cent to pass. The online webcam-proctored test and the in-person test at an authorized testing site follow the same rules.

The MVDA Key Elements course is a separate, shorter program from the same school. It is designed for grandfathered salespeople and dealers, and for current OMVIC registrants who completed the full certification course before 2010. Its test is also multiple-choice and open book, but you get 60 minutes instead of 90, and the course fee effective September 1, 2026 is $204.89 versus $288.94 for the full Automotive Certification Course.
