What the Power BI 778 is and how it works

According to Microsoft (Microsoft Learn / Microsoft Credentials); exams delivered by Pearson VUE, “Most Microsoft Certification exams typically contain between 40-60 questions; however, the number can vary depending on the exam.”^[1]

Our Power BI 778 label maps to PL-300, the current Microsoft Power BI exam. It sits under the Data Analyst Associate certification and covers preparing data, modeling it, building reports and managing the Power BI environment.

The exam is proctored and scheduled through Pearson VUE. The fee depends on the country or region where you take it, so check the price for your location on the Microsoft Learn certification page before booking.

You get 100 minutes. Microsoft says most of its certification exams contain between 40-60 questions, and the number can vary by exam, so do not plan around an exact count. A score of 700 or greater is required to pass.

If you do not pass, each retake is paid. Microsoft's retake policy says you must pay to retake the exam where applicable, so read that policy before you book again.

Once certified, you can take a free online renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn. It is available any time during a 6-month eligibility window, and passing extends the certification by a year from the expiration date.

Rule to remember: if the trigger is a value crossing a limit, think data alert. If the trigger is a clock or calendar, think subscription or scheduled refresh.

Question: What does 'Fill Down' do in Power Query?

Rule to remember: Fill Down copies existing data into nulls beneath it. It never invents a new value.

A column from a live database view is defined in the database, so Power BI only reads it.

Rule to remember: Power Query columns are shaped in M before loading, while calculated columns use DAX and live in the model. Measures, by contrast, are evaluated at query time.

Start with the official Microsoft Learn study guide for the exam and read the list of skills measured. Write down which areas you already use at work and which feel unfamiliar.
