How to Test on Mettl: What to Expect on Exam Day of a Mercer Mettl Mock Test or Live Assessment

When you test on Mettl, you access the platform through a secure browser that monitors your activity throughout the entire session. Starting Your Mettl Test Session

Log in using the unique test link sent to your registered email address from admin.mettl@mercer.com (or the 8-12 digit invitation key at tests.mettl.com) at least 10 minutes before the scheduled start time. Mettl will walk you through identity verification, environment checks, and a brief tutorial on navigation controls before the actual exam begins. If your invitation covers a managerial role, expect a behavioral section as well; reviewing Mettl leadership assessment sample questions ahead of time helps you recognize the situational-judgment format so the timer does not catch you off guard.

MSB Demo Test: How to Run the Mettl Secure Browser Mock Test Before Exam Day

The MSB demo test is the mock test Mercer | Mettl asks you to complete after installing the Mettl Secure Browser (MSB) and before opening your real assessment link. MSB is a lockdown browser: once launched, it closes other browsers and applications, blocks unauthorized websites and third-party software, and does not let you leave the window until the test is finished. The mock test lets you see that behavior on your own computer with nothing at stake.

Mercer's candidate guide lists four steps: download and install MSB, take the mock test, open the final test link, then click "Launch Test." Run the MSB demo test on the same laptop or desktop and network you will use on exam day, since the system check looks for at least 512 kbps and a supported browser (Chrome 63+, Firefox 52+, or Safari 12+). Allow camera, microphone, and screen-sharing permissions when prompted, and disconnect any second screen first, because sharing a screen after MSB starts terminates the test. MSB has no navigation buttons; avoid pressing F5 during questions, as Mercer warns it can submit the test. For a full walkthrough, see our Mettl Secure Browser guide.

How to Test Mettl Platform Features Before Your Exam

You can test Mettl functionality by clicking the "Check System Compatibility" link in your invitation email before your scheduled assessment. This diagnostic verifies your browser version, webcam access, microphone permissions, and internet speed to ensure everything meets the minimum requirements. Taking five minutes to test Mettl beforehand prevents technical disruptions that could cost you valuable exam time or trigger proctoring flags. If your invitation requires the lockdown browser, the MSB demo test (Mercer's mock test) is the right place to run this check. Once the check passes, use the remaining time to run through a few Mettl assessment questions from the quiz tiles above so the interface feels familiar when the real timer starts.

You should never be asked to pay to take a Mercer Mettl assessment. If you are asked for payment, verify the legitimacy of the job offer.

Mettl Platform: How a Mercer Mettl Assessment Works for Candidates

The Mettl platform is Mercer | Mettl's online assessment system, which lets employers and institutions deliver tests that candidates take from any location using a laptop or desktop and a live internet connection. You cannot sign up for a test yourself; you start a Mercer Mettl assessment from an invitation, either by pressing the start button in the email, pasting the test URL into a browser, or entering the invitation key at tests.mettl.com.

After launch, the platform runs a fixed sequence: a system compatibility check, camera and microphone access, screen-sharing permission, candidate registration fields, face capture, and ID card verification. Then the questions begin. Depending on what the employer chose, sessions are monitored by AI-flag proctoring, a live human proctor, or the Mettl Secure Browser. Candidates pay nothing, because the hiring organization is Mercer's customer, and Mercer's support team (mettl-support@mercer.com) is available 24x7 if a test will not load.

Mercer Mettl Assessment Questions and Answers: What the Leadership and Mettl Aptitude Test Sections Look Like

Most candidates searching for Mercer Mettl assessment questions and answers are trying to preview two sections: the cognitive aptitude battery and the behavioral or leadership module. The aptitude battery is multiple choice and timed per section. Numerical questions typically give you a table or chart and ask for a percentage change, a ratio, or a projected value; you have roughly 60 to 90 seconds per item. Logical reasoning uses figure series, matrix completion, and statement-conclusion sets (the abstract and numerical test items are where most candidates lose time), while verbal ability leans on short passages with inference questions. There is no negative marking on most configurations, so answer every item.

The leadership module works differently. Mettl leadership assessment sample questions are situational-judgment items: you read a short workplace scenario, such as a team member missing a deadline or two stakeholders disagreeing on priorities, and then rank four or five responses from most to least effective. Some employers add a Likert-scale personality inventory measuring traits such as drive, resilience, and people orientation. These items have no single correct answer; they are benchmarked against a competency profile the employer defines for the role.

Practical takeaways: for aptitude, practice data interpretation and figure series under time pressure using the quiz tiles above. For the leadership section, answer consistently and choose responses that show ownership, clear communication, and escalation only when needed, rather than trying to guess what the recruiter wants.

Mettl Test Types Explained: Aptitude, Coding, and Psychometric Assessments

Employers pick from three broad families in the Mercer Mettl library, and the invitation email usually names which one you are getting. The Mettl aptitude test is the most common for graduate and entry-level hiring: timed multiple-choice sections in numerical reasoning (tables, charts, percentages, ratios), abstract reasoning (figure series and matrix completion), logical reasoning, and verbal ability. Combined abstract and numeric test batteries typically run 30 to 50 questions in 45 to 60 minutes, with no negative marking on most configurations.

Mettl coding tests present 2 to 4 problems in a browser IDE that supports mainstream languages such as Java, Python, C++, and JavaScript. An auto-grader runs your code against hidden test cases and scores correctness and efficiency, and Mettl's coding platform now reports an "AI Sense" estimate of whether a submission was AI-generated. Mettl psychometric tests cover personality inventories (Likert-scale statements) and situational-judgment items used for leadership, sales, and customer-facing roles; they are benchmarked against a competency profile rather than marked right or wrong.

All three types run under the same proctoring options: AI proctoring that flags background voices, extra faces, and off-screen glances from your webcam feed, optional human remote proctoring on the live video, and, for high-stakes hiring, the Mettl Secure Browser lockdown app. Companies use the reports to shortlist before interviews, to rank campus-recruitment candidates, and to assess existing staff for promotion or training, which is why a strong score on a Mettl practice test before the real invitation arrives can move you past the first cut.
