- Pre-enrolment LLN and digital-literacy review is now Outcome Standard 1.4: ASQA's Information Practice Guide (June 2025) states providers must review a prospective student's language, literacy and numeracy proficiency and digital literacy prior to enrolment for every training product, including standalone units, and then advise the student whether the course is suitable. The review can use a purchased or in-house tool or evidence of existing skills, so the format varies by RTO. (source)

- Cost (manual updated 22 October 2025): under VET Student Loans, "assessment fees for determining whether a student is academically suited to undertake a course" are treated as covered by tuition fees, so the LLN assessment is not a separate charge (only special admissions tests such as flight aptitude may be billed extra). The digital section is benchmarked against DEWR's Digital Literacy Skills Framework (DLSF), which extends the ACSF up to Level 3. Expect practical tasks rather than IT theory: opening and saving a file, reading an email and choosing the right reply, filling in an online form, finding a due date on a screenshot of a learning portal, or spotting a suspicious message.
