CrossFit Level 1 cert — weekend course experience and what to study beforehand
Signed up for my CrossFit L1 seminar next month. Two-day weekend format. I've been doing CrossFit for 2 years and coach informally at my box sometimes, but I've never done a formal certification course.
Should I be studying before the weekend? A few people told me just showing up is enough, but the exam at the end makes me nervous. I don't want to fail on something preventable.
What's the written exam like and how much does movement evaluation factor into the overall assessment?
Passed mine last spring. The written exam is 50 questions, multiple choice. Movement evaluation is pass/fail, not scored. They're watching for safe coaching cues, not perfect form.
The weekend itself is intense but really fun. Come ready to move a lot — you'll be doing workouts both days. Wear comfortable shoes.
Biggest tip: know the three metabolic pathways and when each one dominates. That section tripped up several people in my cohort who thought they could wing it.
Do study beforehand. Read the Level 1 Training Guide cover to cover at least once. The exam questions come directly from it — terminology, the 9 foundational movements, nutrition basics.
