Time management during CCA exam — how fast are you supposed to go?

What helped me most with practice test specifically: stop thinking about it as a topic to memorize and start thinking about the types of decisions it's asking you to make. Once I shifted to that frame, my CCA scores in that section jumped about 11 points within a week.

61 seconds per question sounds brutal, but once you break it down it's actually more manageable than it feels. The trick I used was to mentally divide the exam into thirds — roughly 41 questions every 46 minutes — and just glance at the timer at those checkpoints. If you're behind, you know it early enough to pick up the pace instead of finding out with 5 questions left and 90 seconds on the clock.

The other thing that made a huge difference for me: I stopped treating every question equally. CCA questions on construction cost principles and internal controls tend to be wordier and eat more time, so I'd flag those and move on, banking time on the shorter definitional questions first. When you loop back, you're not panicking — you're just cleaning up. Took me a few timed runs on a cca practice test before I found my rhythm, but once I did, I finished my actual exam with about 8 minutes to spare.

Also worth checking: were you re-reading questions multiple times before answering? That was my biggest time sink early on. First read to understand, second read only if something genuinely doesn't make sense. Otherwise you're just burning seconds on questions you already know.
