I've been prepping for the BMST for about 3 weeks now and I'm honestly not sure if I'm covering the right material. The math section feels manageable but the science portion — especially chemistry — is giving me real trouble. I scored 62% on my first practice test and I know I need at least 75% to pass.
My schedule right now is about 2 hours a day on weekdays and 4 hours on weekends. I've been working through a bmst test practice set alongside Khan Academy to get a feel for the question format. Still, 4 weeks out feels tight.
Has anyone here taken it recently? I keep reading conflicting things about whether the science portion is more conceptual or calculation-heavy. I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've actually sat for it.
I passed mine last spring with an 81%. The science section is more concept-based than calculation — understanding the why matters more than memorizing formulas. Spend your last week reviewing chemistry and physics principles, not drilling arithmetic.
Make sure you're timing yourself on practice sections. I wasn't doing that early on and ran out of time on 6 questions during the real exam. Time pressure is real.
The math section is surprisingly straightforward — mostly algebra and basic stats. Don't let it eat your prep time when the science side needs more attention.
2 hours a day for 4 weeks is probably enough if you're consistent. I crammed my final week and was exhausted on test day — not worth it. Stick to your schedule.
