What the DE Bar is and how it works

According to Delaware Board of Bar Examiners, “Tuesday consists of the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and 4 Delaware Essay Questions.”^[1]

The Delaware bar exam is the written test run by the Delaware Board of Bar Examiners for people seeking admission to practice in Delaware. It is given in person at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington, on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of February and July. The next sittings are February 23–24, 2027 and July 27–28, 2027.

Tuesday consists of the Multistate Performance Test (MPT) and 4 Delaware essay questions. Wednesday is the MBE. To pass the written exam you need a score of at least 143, and the MPRE requirement is a score of 85.

Fees depend on applicant type. Attorneys pay $800 early or $1,000 regular. Law school graduates pay $700 early or $900 regular. For the February sitting, early filing closes November 3, 2026 and the final application deadline is December 1, 2026. The July application opens mid-February 2027 and closes early May 2027.

After you pass, you have until December 31 of the year following the year in which you pass to be admitted. Eligibility rules, retake fees and exact dates can change between sittings, so check the Board's site at courts.delaware.gov/bbe before you apply. How to use these practice tests

Start with the official material. Read the Board of Bar Examiners' pages on format, content areas and deadlines, so you know what Tuesday and Wednesday ask of you and what the application requires.

Then take a short diagnostic across several of our practice sets, covering the areas on the official list. Do not worry about the score. Note which sets leave you guessing and put those first in your schedule.

For each weak area, work a set, then read every explanation, including those for questions you got right. Write the rule behind each miss in a sentence of your own. Come back to the same set a few days later and see whether the rule stuck.

Because Tuesday is built around essays and a performance test, do not rely on multiple-choice practice alone. Turn what you learned into written answers: state the rule, apply it to the facts, and reach a conclusion. In the final stretch, mix subjects within a single sitting and time yourself, so switching topics feels routine on test day.
