CQIA Practice Test

The CQIA is the ASQ Certified Quality Improvement Associate exam, taken by people who support quality work in their organization and want a recognized credential. What the CQIA is and how it works

According to American Society for Quality (ASQ) / ASQ Excellence (ASQE); exams delivered by Prometric, “Computer Delivered - The CQIA examination is a one-part, 110-question exam, and is offered in English only. 100 questions are scored and 10 are unscored.”^[1]

The CQIA is offered by the American Society for Quality (ASQ). It covers Quality Basics, Improvement, Customer Relationship and Supplier Relationship. The exam is computer delivered, in English only, with 110 questions, of which 100 are scored and 10 are unscored. It is open book. You can sit it at a Prometric test center or by live remote proctoring from home.

To be certified you need 550 points out of a possible 750. Because the exam is computer based, you see your result immediately after submitting, and an email confirms it within 3–5 business days.

To apply you need 2 years' full-time paid work experience, or an associate degree or 2 years of higher education. The exam fee is $434, and ASQ members save $100 on the initial fee. A retake costs $234. Retakes are unlimited, but you must retake within 2 years of your last attempt, and not in the same window.

The next testing window is December 1–31, 2026, with an application deadline of November 9, 2026. ASQ does not accept late applications. The certification is for life and has no recertification requirement. Fees and dates can change, so confirm them on the ASQ site before you apply.

How to use these practice tests

Start with the official ASQ outline for the CQIA and read the content areas listed there: Quality Basics, Improvement, Customer Relationship and Supplier Relationship. Use it as your checklist. Then take the practice set that matches your weakest area before you study it, so you know where you actually stand.

Work through each set slowly. For every question, read the explanation even when you were right, and write down the rule behind the answer in your own words. Group your misses by theme, such as data collection, root cause methods or team practices, and go back to the source material for those themes only.

Move on to the broader sets, like quality tools, statistical methods and standards, once the basics feel steady. Repeat any set after a gap and see whether the same questions still trip you up.

The exam is open book, but that does not replace knowing the material. Practise finding things quickly in the references you plan to bring, and make sure you understand them well enough to apply them to a scenario. In the last days before your window, review your written rules rather than starting new topics.
