Texas Bar Exam Practice Test PDF (Free Printable 2026)

The Texas Bar Licensing Examination (TBLE) uses the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) format since February 2021. The UBE allows score portability — a passing UBE score can be transferred to other UBE jurisdictions, making the Texas bar exam result valuable beyond Texas alone.

Texas Bar Exam Structure

The UBE consists of three components administered over two days:

  • MEE (Multistate Essay Examination): 6 essay questions, 30 minutes each — tests legal analysis and written communication across multiple subjects.
  • MPT (Multistate Performance Test): 2 tasks, 90 minutes each — a skills test requiring candidates to produce a legal document (objective memo, persuasive brief, or similar) using a provided library of cases and statutes. No outside law knowledge is required; the MPT tests lawyering skills.
  • MBE (Multistate Bar Exam): 200 multiple-choice questions over 6 hours — tests knowledge of 7 core subjects.

Texas passing score: 270 out of 400. The UBE is scored on a combined scale: MBE counts 50%, MEE 30%, MPT 20%.

MBE Subjects

The 200 MBE questions cover 7 subjects equally:

  • Civil Procedure
  • Constitutional Law
  • Contracts
  • Criminal Law and Procedure
  • Evidence
  • Real Property
  • Torts

MEE Subjects

The MEE includes all 7 MBE subjects plus 6 additional subjects: Agency and Partnership, Business Organizations, Conflict of Laws, Family Law, Secured Transactions, and Trusts and Estates. Not all subjects appear on every exam — NCBE selects 6 of the eligible subjects per administration.

Texas-Specific Admission Requirements

Beyond the UBE score, Texas has specific admission requirements through the Board of Law Examiners (BOLE):

  • Character and Fitness review by BOLE — required for all applicants.
  • Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school — required by Texas Supreme Court Rule.
  • MPRE (Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam) — minimum score of 85 required.
  • Texas also requires a Texas-specific Professional Ethics and Conduct component for certain applicants.
  • Score transfer: Texas accepts UBE score transfers with a passing score (270+) earned within 5 years of the transfer application. Separate reciprocal admission (Lawyer's License Transfer) rules apply for licensed attorneys from other jurisdictions.
