  1. If a helicopter must climb 4,500 feet over a horizontal distance of 9 miles, what is the climb gradient in feet per mile?

    Answer: 500 feet/mile

    Climb gradient = altitude change / horizontal distance = 4,500 ft / 9 miles = 500 ft/mile.

  2. A rectangular landing zone is 80 meters long and 45 meters wide. What is its area?

    Answer: 3,600 m²

    Area of a rectangle = length × width = 80 × 45 = 3,600 m².

  3. A flight burns fuel at 22 gallons per hour. If the aircraft departs with 110 gallons, how many hours of flight time remain after 2.5 hours?

    Answer: 2.5 hours

    Fuel used = 22 × 2.5 = 55 gallons. Remaining = 110 - 55 = 55 gallons. Flight time remaining = 55 / 22 = 2.5 hours.

  4. What is 40% of 250?

    Answer: 100

    40% of 250 = 0.40 × 250 = 100.

  5. A pilot needs to fly 180 nautical miles and has 2.5 hours. What minimum groundspeed is required?

    Answer: 72 knots

    Groundspeed = Distance / Time = 180 / 2.5 = 72 knots.

  6. Simplify: (3x²y)(4xy³)

    Answer: 12x³y⁴

    Multiply coefficients: 3 × 4 = 12. Add exponents of like variables: x²·x = x³; y·y³ = y⁴. Result: 12x³y⁴.
