    Answer: 7.5

    Flour scales proportionally: 3 cups ÷ 12 cookies × 30 cookies = 7.5 cups.

  2. A shirt originally priced at $40 is marked down by 25%. What is the sale price?

    Answer: $30

    25% of $40 is $10, so the sale price is $40 − $10 = $30.

  3. If 5 workers can paint a fence in 8 hours, how long would it take 10 workers at the same rate?

    Answer: 4 hours

    Total work is 40 worker-hours, so 10 workers finish in 40 ÷ 10 = 4 hours.

  4. A car travels 150 miles in 3 hours. At this rate, how far does it travel in 5 hours?

    Answer: 250 miles

    The rate is 50 mph, so in 5 hours it travels 50 × 5 = 250 miles.

  5. The ratio of cats to dogs at a shelter is 3:5. If there are 24 cats, how many dogs are there?

    Answer: 40

    Each ratio unit equals 24 ÷ 3 = 8, so dogs = 5 × 8 = 40.

  6. A population of 200 bacteria doubles every hour. How many bacteria are there after 3 hours?

    Answer: 1600

    200 × 2³ = 200 × 8 = 1600 bacteria after 3 hours.

  7. What is 15% of 80?

    Answer: 12

    0.15 × 80 = 12.
