If 3x - 7 = 2x + 5, what is the value of x?
Answer: 12
Subtract 2x from both sides to get x - 7 = 5, then add 7 to get x = 12.
A line passes through (0, 4) and (2, 10). What is its slope?
Answer: 3
Slope = (10 - 4)/(2 - 0) = 6/2 = 3.
If f(x) = 2x^2 - 3, what is f(-2)?
Answer: 5
f(-2) = 2(4) - 3 = 8 - 3 = 5.
What are the solutions to x^2 - 5x + 6 = 0?
Answer: x = 2 and x = 3
Factoring gives (x - 2)(x - 3) = 0, so x = 2 or x = 3.
If y varies directly with x and y = 12 when x = 4, what is y when x = 7?
Answer: 21
The constant is 12/4 = 3, so y = 3(7) = 21.
Simplify the expression (x^3)(x^4).
Answer: x^7
When multiplying like bases, add the exponents: 3 + 4 = 7.
If 2(x + 3) = 16, what is x?
Answer: 5
Divide by 2 to get x + 3 = 8, then x = 5.
