Reflexology Reflexology Techniques 1

Question 1

What is the primary working technique used in reflexology to stimulate reflex points?

Accepted Answer

Thumb walking (caterpillar movement)

Answer

Thumb walking, also called the caterpillar movement, is the foundational technique of reflexology where the thumb bends and straightens to walk across reflex areas.

Question 2

Which direction should a reflexologist's thumb walk when working reflex points?

Accepted Answer

Forward only — never backward

Answer

The thumb walks in a forward (never backward) direction, using the outer edge of the thumb tip to apply consistent pressure.

Question 3

What technique uses the index finger in a hooking and backing-up movement to pinpoint a specific reflex?

Accepted Answer

Hook and back-up technique

Answer

The hook and back-up technique uses the index finger to hook into a reflex point and then back up slightly to apply concentrated pressure.

Question 4

Which reflexology technique involves rotating the foot while holding the thumb on a reflex point?

Accepted Answer

Rotation on a point

Answer

Rotation on a point involves stationary thumb pressure on a reflex while the other hand rotates the foot to work the area from multiple angles.

Question 5

What is the recommended angle of the thumb tip when performing thumb walking in reflexology?

Accepted Answer

Approximately 45 degrees

Answer

The thumb tip should contact the reflex area at approximately a 45-degree angle to avoid nail contact and ensure proper pressure.
