Post Dispatcher Duties 1 — Questions and Answers
Question 1: Officers can locate the number on a material by looking for it on the:
- Red panel
- Orange panel (Correct answer)
- Black and White panel
- In the chemical assistance manual
Correct answer: Orange panel
In hazardous materials identification systems, such as those used on placards for transportation, the UN number (a four-digit identification number for hazardous substances) is typically displayed on an orange panel. This standardized placement allows first responders to quickly identify the specific substance involved in an incident. The orange panel is a key visual cue for hazmat identification.
Question 2: Answering an emergency medical services call "Cold" is:
- Sirens and lights.
- For calls that are urgent or life-threatening.
- No sirens or lights. (Correct answer)
- To make regular calls.
Correct answer: No sirens or lights.
In emergency medical services (EMS) terminology, responding to a call 'cold' means that the emergency vehicle proceeds to the scene without using emergency lights and sirens. This type of response is typically reserved for calls that are not immediately life-threatening or urgent, where the added risk and disruption of an emergency response are not warranted. Conversely, a 'hot' response involves lights and sirens.
Question 3: The following details are required in order to properly question a Telecommunicator:
- obtaining the caller's name, address, and birthdate
- weapons, where, when, who, and how (Correct answer)
- determining whether the call was made recently or in the past
- asking the patient if an ambulance is needed
Correct answer: weapons, where, when, who, and how
When a telecommunicator (dispatcher) questions a caller during an emergency, it's crucial to gather specific details to ensure the safety of responders and the public. Key information includes 'weapons' (if any are involved), 'where' the incident is occurring, 'when' it happened, 'who' is involved, and 'how' it is unfolding. This framework helps dispatchers quickly assess the situation and provide vital information to responding units.
Question 4: An incident that involves more casualties than the initial resources available to the responders is referred to as a multi-casualty incident.
- True (Correct answer)
- False
Correct answer: True
A multi-casualty incident is defined as any event that results in more casualties than the initial resources available to the first responders can effectively manage. This situation necessitates the activation of additional resources, personnel, and a coordinated response from multiple agencies. It highlights the need for robust emergency preparedness and incident management systems.
Question 5: The organization whose goal it is to help citizens and first responders is to make sure that as a country we jointly work to improve our capacity to anticipate, defend against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate hazards
- NIMS
- NORAD
- CEMP
- FEMA (Correct answer)
Correct answer: FEMA
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the U.S. government agency responsible for coordinating the nation's response to disasters. Its mission aligns precisely with the description: to help citizens and first responders work together to improve the country's capacity to anticipate, defend against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all types of hazards. FEMA plays a critical role in national preparedness and disaster management.
Question 6: The person assembling the necessary tools to carry out the incident in an Active Shooter scenario is known as:
- Fantasy phase
- Planning phase
- Preparation phase (Correct answer)
- Approach phase
Correct answer: Preparation phase
In the context of an active shooter scenario, the 'preparation phase' refers to the period when the perpetrator is actively planning and assembling the necessary tools for the attack. This includes acquiring weapons, ammunition, and any other equipment, as well as conducting reconnaissance or developing a detailed plan of action. Identifying signs during this phase is crucial for prevention efforts.
Question 7: Toxic biological agents intentionally released to harm and terrorize people in the name of a political or other cause are referred to as:
- State terrorism
- Bio-terrorism (Correct answer)
- Eco-terrorism
- Nuclear terrorism
Correct answer: Bio-terrorism
Bioterrorism is specifically defined as the intentional release of toxic biological agents, such as bacteria, viruses, or toxins, to cause harm, illness, or death among humans, animals, or plants. The primary goal is often to terrorize a population or achieve political or ideological objectives. This distinguishes it from other forms of terrorism that use different types of weapons.
