- To intimidate potential troublemakers
- To clearly convey and receive information to maintain safety and resolve situations (Correct answer)
- To demonstrate authority over others

Correct answer: To clearly convey and receive information to maintain safety and resolve situations
Effective communication aims to ensure clear exchange of information, maintain safety, de-escalate conflicts, and resolve situations professionally. It is the foundation of good security work.
Question 2: Which of the following is an example of 'active listening' in security work?
- Interrupting the speaker to give your opinion
- Making eye contact, nodding, and paraphrasing what the person said to confirm understanding (Correct answer)
- Looking at your phone while someone is talking
- Walking away when someone is speaking
Correct answer: Making eye contact, nodding, and paraphrasing what the person said to confirm understanding
Active listening involves giving full attention to the speaker, using non-verbal cues like eye contact and nodding, and paraphrasing to confirm that the message was correctly received.
Question 3: What percentage of communication is estimated to be non-verbal?
- 10%
- 25%
- 55-93% (Correct answer)
- Less than 5%
Correct answer: 55-93%

Question 4: When communicating over a two-way radio, what does the term '10-4' mean?
- Emergency in progress

- Request for backup
- End of shift
Correct answer: Message received and understood
'10-4' is a standard radio code meaning 'message received and understood' or 'acknowledged.' It confirms that the transmission was clearly received.
Question 5: What is the 'communication loop' in the context of security operations?
- Repeating the same message over and over
- The cycle of sending a message, receiving feedback, and confirming understanding (Correct answer)
- Communicating only with other security guards
- Using a loop antenna for radio communication
Correct answer: The cycle of sending a message, receiving feedback, and confirming understanding
The communication loop involves sending a message, the receiver providing feedback or acknowledgment, and the sender confirming the message was understood correctly. This reduces miscommunication.
Question 6: Which of the following should a security guard avoid when writing an incident report?
- Using specific times and dates
- Including opinions and assumptions instead of factual observations (Correct answer)
- Describing physical descriptions of individuals

Correct answer: Including opinions and assumptions instead of factual observations
Incident reports should contain factual, objective observations rather than personal opinions or assumptions. Subjective language can undermine the report's credibility in legal proceedings.
