Answer: $3,680

Raise = 15% of $3,200 = $480; new salary = $3,200 + $480 = $3,680.

A fuel tank holds 450 gallons. A vessel uses 37.5 gallons per hour. If the tank starts full, how many hours until it is exactly one-third full?

Answer: 8 hours

One-third of 450 = 150 gallons; gallons to consume = 300; 300 / 37.5 = 8 hours.

Three crew members share a bonus equally. After each pays 20% in taxes, each person takes home $960. What was the total bonus before taxes?

Answer: $3,600

Pre-tax share per person = $960 / 0.80 = $1,200; total bonus = 3 x $1,200 = $3,600.
