What is a 'loose certificate' and when is it used?
Answer: A separate piece of paper containing the notarial certificate that is attached to the document when there is no space on the document itself
A loose certificate (also called an allonge) is a separate notarial certificate page that is securely attached to a document when the document itself has no space for the certificate wording.
A notary performs a jurat and the signer refuses to take the oath. What should the notary do?
Answer: Refuse to complete the jurat because taking the oath is a required element
The oath or affirmation is an essential element of a jurat. If a signer refuses to take it, the notary cannot complete the jurat. The notary may offer an affirmation as an alternative if the objection is religious.

If a notary discovers after completing a notarization that the wrong type of certificate was attached (e.g., a jurat was used when an acknowledgment was required), what is the appropriate remedy?
Answer: The signer must appear again and a new, correct certificate must be executed
When the wrong type of certificate is used, the correct remedy is for the signer to appear before the notary again so that the correct type of notarial act can be properly performed and a new certificate attached.
