The NCCER (National Center for Construction Education and Research) provides standardized craft training and certification for construction and industrial trades. Whether you're preparing for an electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or core curriculum assessment, having access to a printable practice test PDF lets you study anywhere — on the job site, at home, or on the go.
Our free NCCER practice test PDF includes multiple-choice questions covering the most tested topics across NCCER craft modules. Download it below, print it out, and use it alongside your module textbooks to sharpen your exam readiness before test day.

What the NCCER Core Curriculum Covers
All NCCER craft programs begin with the core curriculum, which is required before advancing to any specialty trade module. The core curriculum covers fundamental knowledge every construction professional must demonstrate.
Basic Safety (OSHA 10 Topics)
This section covers personal protective equipment (PPE), fall protection systems, electrical safety principles, lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, and hazard communication under the GHS system. Expect questions on identifying the right PPE for specific hazards and the steps in a proper LOTO sequence.
Construction Math
You'll need to work with fractions, decimals, percentages, and measurements. Problems may ask you to calculate area, volume, or material quantities — skills used daily on construction sites for estimating and layout.
Hand Tools and Power Tools
Questions test identification, safe use, and maintenance of common hand tools as well as power tools including circular saws, angle grinders, and drills. Safe operating procedures and guard usage are frequently tested.
Construction Drawings and Blueprints
Reading orthographic views, plan views, elevation views, and section views is a core skill. You must understand drawing scales, common symbols, and how to extract dimensions from blueprints.
Material Handling and Rigging
This module covers sling types (wire rope, chain, and synthetic web slings), load calculation basics, and hand signals used for crane operations. Rigging safety and inspection procedures are also tested.
NCCER Electrical Level 1 Topics
Electrical Level 1 is one of the most widely taken NCCER specialty modules. Key areas include electrical theory (Ohm's Law, Kirchhoff's voltage and current laws), AC versus DC current characteristics, conductors and insulators, and an introduction to the National Electrical Code (NEC). Hands-on skills tested include conduit bending (90-degree bends, offsets, saddle bends), wire pulling and termination, grounding and bonding principles, and overcurrent protection devices such as fuses and circuit breakers.
NCCER Plumbing and HVAC Modules
Plumbing modules cover pipe material types (copper, PVC, CPVC, PEX, and cast iron), DWV (drain-waste-vent) system principles, fitting types, and soldering and sweating copper pipe. HVAC modules address the refrigeration cycle (compressor, condenser, expansion valve, and evaporator), HVAC tools including manifold gauge sets and vacuum pumps, ductwork types (sheet metal and flexible), and EPA Section 608 refrigerant handling awareness.
