  1. A square piece of paper is folded in half vertically (left half onto right half), then folded in half horizontally (top half onto bottom half). A hole is punched through all layers at the center of the folded paper. When completely unfolded, how many holes appear?

Answer: 4 holes arranged in a 2×2 pattern

Each fold doubles the number of layers. After the vertical fold there are 2 layers; after the horizontal fold there are 4 layers. Punching once through 4 layers creates 4 holes, which unfold into a 2×2 grid.

  2. A cube has 'A' on the Top face, 'B' on the Front face, and 'C' on the Right face (opposite faces are A/D, B/E, C/F). The cube is tipped forward so that the Front face becomes the new Bottom. Which letter is now on the Top face?

    Answer: E

Tipping forward moves the Front face (B) to the Bottom. The opposite of the original Front face is the Back face (E), which rises to become the new Top.

  3. An arrow pointing North is rotated 135° clockwise. In which direction does it now point?

    Answer: Southeast

    Starting from North (0°) and adding 135° clockwise reaches Southeast (0° + 90° = East, + 45° more = Southeast). The compass landmarks are: 90° = East, 135° = Southeast, 180° = South.

  4. The letter 'F' is placed in front of a vertical mirror. Which description best matches its mirror image?

    Answer: A horizontally flipped F (reversed left-to-right)

A vertical mirror reverses left and right only, not up and down. The horizontal bars of F, which extend to the right, now appear to extend to the left — a left-right flip, not an upside-down flip.

  5. A flat net consists of a central square with one square attached to each of its four sides (a plus/cross shape of 5 squares). A sixth square is attached to the right side of the rightmost square. When folded, what 3-D shape does this net form?

    Answer: A cube

A cross-shaped arrangement of 6 identical squares is the classic net of a cube. Each square becomes one face of the six-faced cube when all tabs are folded upward and the final square closes the top.

  6. Looking at a 3-D staircase structure from the front, you see 3 columns: the left column is 3 blocks tall, the middle is 2 blocks tall, and the right is 1 block tall. Each column is only 1 block deep. How many individual cubes make up the entire structure?

    Answer: 6

Add the cubes in each column: 3 (left) + 2 (middle) + 1 (right) = 6. Since each column is 1 block deep, the count from the front view equals the total.
