A water tank holds 5,000 litres when full. It is currently 35% full. How many litres are in the tank?
Answer: 1,750 litres
35% of 5,000 = 0.35 x 5,000 = 1,750 litres.
A worker earns $1,200 per week before tax. Tax is deducted at 20%. What is the take-home pay?
Answer: $960
Tax = 20% x $1,200 = $240. Take-home = $1,200 - $240 = $960.
A worker buys safety boots for $145 and a hard hat for $55. They pay with $200 and three $10 notes. How much change do they receive?
Answer: $30
Total = $145 + $55 = $200. Amount paid = $200 + $30 = $230. Change = $230 - $200 = $30.
