LEAP 2025 covers students in grades 3 through 8 and includes End-of-Course (EOC) exams for high school. The assessments measure mastery in English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. EOC exams in English I, English II, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, and US History count toward high school graduation requirements in Louisiana.

What the LEAP Assessment Tests
Each LEAP subject area has its own content framework aligned to Louisiana Student Standards. Here is what students can expect on each test.
LEAP English Language Arts (ELA)
The ELA test measures literary and informational text analysis, vocabulary in context, and writing from sources. Students complete evidence-based argument tasks, expository writing prompts, and research simulation tasks. The test evaluates how well students can read complex texts, cite textual evidence, and develop organized written responses.
LEAP Math
Math questions cover number and operations, algebra and algebraic thinking, geometry, and measurement and data or statistics. The specific standards shift by grade level, but all items are aligned to Louisiana's student standards, which are based on the Common Core framework with state-specific revisions.
LEAP Science
Science assessments address Earth and space sciences, life sciences, and physical sciences. Questions ask students to apply scientific reasoning and interpret data rather than simply recall facts.
LEAP Social Studies
Social Studies tests cover US history, civics and government, economics, and geography. High school students taking the US History EOC must demonstrate understanding of major historical periods, constitutional principles, and geographic and economic concepts.
High School End-of-Course (EOC) Exams
Louisiana requires EOC exams in English I, English II, Algebra I, Geometry, Biology, and US History. These exams are scored on the same 750–850 scale and carry weight toward high school graduation. Students who do not pass may retake EOC exams during fall testing windows.
