  1. How many times per admission season may a student take the ISEE under the standard ERB policy?

Answer: Once per testing season in each of the three seasons

ERB allows one ISEE attempt per testing season (Fall, Winter, Spring/Summer), so up to three times in an admission year.

  2. Which ISEE level would a student applying for entry into 9th–12th grade take?

    Answer: Upper Level

The Upper Level ISEE is designed for students applying to grades 9 through 12.

  3. What is the purpose of the unscored experimental questions included on the ISEE?

Answer: To pretest items for future exams

Experimental questions are included to evaluate potential items for future tests and do not count toward the score.

  4. Is the ISEE essay scored numerically by ERB?

Answer: No, it is sent unscored to schools

The essay is not scored but is copied and sent directly to the schools the student designates.

  5. What does a percentile rank on the ISEE compare a student against?

Answer: Students in the same grade over the prior three years

ISEE percentiles compare a student to others in the same grade who took the test over the previous three years.

  6. Which scoring metric on the ISEE ranges only from 1 to 9?

    Answer: Stanine

Stanines are a standardized nine-point scale derived from percentile ranks.

  7. Is there a penalty for incorrect answers on the ISEE?

Answer: No, scores are based only on correct answers

The ISEE has no guessing penalty, so students should answer every question.
