In an era defined by constant change, personal development, and professional reinvention, coaching has emerged as a vital industry helping individuals, teams, and organizations achieve their highest potential. Among the most respected certifying bodies in this growing field is the International Association of Coaching (IAC).
The IAC Certification is known worldwide for its commitment to high coaching standards, cross-cultural relevance, and measurable client results. Unlike many certifications tied to specific coaching models, the IAC’s approach focuses on mastery of core coaching competencies, making it one of the most comprehensive and inclusive coaching credentials available.
The International Association of Coaching (IAC) offers a globally recognized certification for coaching professionals that emphasizes coaching mastery, not just training hours.
IAC certification is based on nine Coaching Masteries®, which form the foundation for effective, ethical, and transformational coaching practices.
The certification process includes rigorous assessments, including a written exam and recorded coaching sessions reviewed by qualified assessors.
Open to coaches from all backgrounds, IAC certification focuses on proven results rather than adherence to a specific methodology or number of training hours.
Holding an IAC certification enhances credibility, career opportunities, and international marketability as a professional coach.
The International Association of Coaching is a non-profit professional organization founded in 2003 to support and credential professional coaches across all disciplines. What sets the IAC apart is its non-model-specific approach to certification. Rather than requiring coaches to follow a specific coaching school or training program, the IAC evaluates coaching proficiency through its Nine Coaching Masteries®.
These Masteries are universal principles that reflect the essence of masterful coaching and are applicable across cultures, industries, and coaching niches. The IAC's mission is to advance coaching excellence, promote ethical practices, and support continuous learning in the profession.
Unlike other organizations that require coaches to log hundreds of hours of training and coaching, the IAC focuses on demonstrated coaching ability. You are evaluated based on your actual coaching skills and the results you help clients achieve—not how long you’ve studied.
IAC certification is respected across continents, making it ideal for coaches with international clientele or those working in multicultural environments.
The IAC is open to coaches trained by any school or method. This inclusive approach makes it easier for independent or self-trained coaches to become credentialed.
The IAC requires all coaches to abide by its Code of Ethics, ensuring professionalism, client confidentiality, and ethical conduct in all coaching relationships.
These Masteries are the foundation of the IAC’s certification process:
Establishing and maintaining a relationship of trust
Perceiving, affirming, and expanding the client’s potential
Engaged listening
Processing in the present
Expressing
Clarifying
Helping the client set and keep clear intentions
Inviting possibility
Helping the client create and use supportive systems and structures
Each Mastery includes behaviors, effects, and distinctions that outline what a proficient coach does, the impact on the client, and how mastery is expressed in real sessions.
The IAC offers two levels of certification:
IAC-Certified Coach™: The initial level of certification.
Master Masteries Coach (MMC™): A more advanced level for experienced coaches.
