Range Management & Facility Operations Flashcards

What is the primary responsibility of a range safety officer (RSO) during a live-fire training session?

Answer: Ensure all range commands are followed and cease-fire rules are enforced

The RSO's primary role is to enforce range commands and safety rules to prevent accidents during live-fire sessions.

Which universal range command immediately stops all shooting and requires firearms to be unloaded and pointed downrange?

Answer: Cease fire

What minimum distance should berm height typically provide when designing an outdoor pistol range?

Answer: Berms should contain all rounds fired and prevent bullets from leaving the range boundary

Range berms must be designed to contain all projectiles, preventing any rounds from leaving the designated range area.

When conducting a range inspection prior to a handgun instructor course, which area should be checked FIRST?

Answer: Downrange target frames and berm integrity

Downrange safety structures including target frames and berm integrity must be inspected first to ensure the range is safe before any live fire.

A handgun instructor notices a student's round impacts outside the designated target area and strikes a support post. What should the instructor do FIRST?

Answer: Call an immediate cease fire and assess the situation

Any round impacting outside the safe zone requires an immediate cease fire to assess safety and prevent further unsafe fire.

Which of the following is a critical element of a range emergency action plan (EAP) that instructors must have in place?

Answer: Clearly posted emergency contact numbers, first aid locations, and evacuation routes
