GED in Florida Overview
The GED is Florida's official high school equivalency diploma program, administered through the Florida Department of Education in partnership with GED Testing Service. Florida adults who did not complete high school can earn a state-recognized diploma by passing all four GED subject tests: Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA), Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies.
A Florida GED diploma is accepted by all Florida employers, Florida colleges and universities, the US military, and professional licensing agencies. Florida community colleges recognize GED scores of 165+ (College Ready) for placement exemptions, saving students money and time on remedial coursework. Florida GED Testing
GED tests in Florida are taken in person at Pearson VUE authorized testing centers. Florida has more than 200 Pearson VUE testing locations, including at most Florida community colleges and many public libraries. You cannot take the official GED exam from home.
Steps to schedule your Florida GED test:
- Create or log in to your myGED account at ged.com
- Search for Florida Pearson VUE test centers by ZIP code
- Select your subject, date, and time
- Pay ~$36 per subject and confirm the appointment
- Bring a valid government-issued photo ID (driver's license, state ID, or passport) on test day
Florida allows testing one subject at a time — you do not need to take all four on the same day. After three failed attempts at a subject, a 60-day waiting period is required before retesting.
Florida GED Test Fee Vouchers
Florida AEL program participants may be eligible for GED test fee vouchers that reduce or eliminate the ~$36 per-subject cost. Voucher availability depends on your enrollment at a local AEL provider and available state funding. Florida community colleges, One-Stop Career Centers (CareerSource Florida), and public library adult education programs are common sources of GED test fee assistance. Ask your local AEL provider about current voucher programs. To build your study confidence before testing, use our free ged practice test and explore ged classes near me for in-person instruction options.
