  1. Solve for x: 3x + 7 = 22

    Answer: 5

    Subtract 7 from both sides to get 3x = 15, then divide both sides by 3 to get x = 5.

  2. A rectangle has a length of 12 cm and a width of 7 cm. What is its area?

    Answer: 84 cm²

    Area of a rectangle = length × width = 12 × 7 = 84 cm². The perimeter (38 cm × 2 sides = 76) is a common distractor but is not the area.

  3. A car travels 180 miles in 3 hours. What is its average speed in miles per hour?

    Answer: 60 mph

    Average speed = distance ÷ time = 180 ÷ 3 = 60 mph.

  4. What is the slope of the line passing through the points (2, 3) and (6, 11)?

    Answer: 2

    Slope = (y₂ − y₁) / (x₂ − x₁) = (11 − 3) / (6 − 2) = 8 / 4 = 2.

  5. The ages of five students are 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17. What is the mean (average) age?

    Answer: 15

    Mean = sum of values ÷ number of values = (13 + 14 + 15 + 16 + 17) ÷ 5 = 75 ÷ 5 = 15.

  6. What is ¾ expressed as a decimal?

    Answer: 0.75

    Divide the numerator by the denominator: 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75. You can also think of it as 75 hundredths.
