gaokao — The Gaokao (全国统一高等学校招生考试, National College Entrance Examination) is administered annually by China's Ministry of Education over two days, covering Chinese Language (150 pts, 150 min), Mathematics (150 pts, 120 min), English (150 pts, 120 min), and three elective subjects from a Science track (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) or Humanities track (History, Geography, Politics), for a total of 750 points; there is no single pass mark — scores are used competitively for university admissions.
