Finally passed TCC exam after failing twice — here's what actually worked

So I just got my results yesterday and I passed with an 84. Honestly didn't think I'd make it after bombing my first two attempts (71 and 68). If you're in the same boat, keep reading because I wasted so much time studying the wrong way.

The biggest shift for me was ditching the textbook cramming and actually drilling with a TCC practice test every single night for three weeks. Like, timed, no phone, simulating real conditions. I also found a study guide that broke down the competency domains instead of just listing facts — that framing helped me understand WHY answers were right, not just memorize them. The workforce development and program management sections caught me off guard on attempt one, so I made sure to nail those.

My exam tips for anyone prepping: don't skip the case studies, pay attention to adult learning theory questions (there are more than you think), and give yourself at least 6-8 weeks if you're working full time. Happy to answer questions if anyone's stressing about their upcoming date.

Congrats!! I'm scheduled for next month and the competency domains are killing me. Can I ask which practice tests you were using? I've been doing the ones from the official site but they feel way too easy compared to what people describe on the actual exam. Also did you find the ethics section tricky? That's where I keep second-guessing myself.

The adult learning theory piece is so real. I passed on my first try but it was close — I'd say maybe 20-25% of my questions touched on andragogy or instructional design principles. The study guide I used had a whole chapter just on Knowles and that definitely saved me. Six to eight weeks sounds right for working people, I did seven weeks at about an hour a night plus longer sessions on weekends.

84 is a solid score, well done. And honestly failing twice before passing might mean you actually understand the material better than someone who squeaked through on the first attempt. Good luck to everyone else grinding through this one.
