Starting a new job in Las Vegas hospitality and need to get the Southern Nevada Health District food handler card before my first shift. The employer said I need it within 30 days. I've never worked in food service before. Is this something I can realistically pass with a day of study or does it require more prep?

The SNHD food handler exam is not difficult. It covers basic food safety: temperature danger zone, handwashing, cross-contamination prevention, proper food storage. Study the SNHD study materials for a couple hours and you'll be fine.

The online course option walks you through everything you need to know and the exam comes right after. Most people complete the whole thing in 2-3 hours including the exam. It's designed to be accessible for entry-level workers.

Focus especially on the temperature rules (41°F and below for cold, 135°F and above for hot) and the big 8 allergens. Those tend to show up prominently and are easy to remember with a little focus.
