I've taken the South Carolina permit test twice and failed both times. First attempt I got 70% when I needed 74%. Second time I got 72%. I've been using the SC Driver's Manual as my main study source and thought I knew it pretty well, but something isn't clicking between what I'm reading and what they're asking.
From what I can tell my weak spots are road sign recognition and specific speed limits in different zones — school zones, residential areas, highways. Right-of-way rules at four-way stops and roundabouts keep tripping me up too. I'm spending about an hour a day studying now, which is more than before.
A friend suggested I try the South Carolina DMV permit test practice questions on PracticeTestGeeks, which I started this week. The format feels much closer to the real test than just reading the manual. I'm scoring around 78–82% on those, which is encouraging, but I've been burned before by practice scores not matching the real thing.
Third attempt is next Friday. Any specific topics that show up constantly on the SC test that I should drill extra hard before then?
Right-of-way at four-way stops is always on there. First to stop, first to go — and when two cars arrive simultaneously, yield to the one on your right. Memorize that scenario cold.
Practice tests that simulate the real format are better than rereading the manual at this point. It sounds like test-taking familiarity is the gap. Do as many full timed practice sets as you can before Friday.
Speed limits in different zones was a big one for me too. Know school zone speeds, residential limits, and interstate rules cold — those showed up 3 or 4 times on my test.
Road signs are worth serious focused time. The SC test includes some less common regulatory signs people skip. Go through every sign in the manual, not just the obvious ones.
