How long does it realistically take to study for the NY Real Estate Exam?
I work full time (44 hours a week) and just registered for the NY Real Estate Exam. I'm trying to set a realistic study timeline before committing to a test date.
From what I've read, estimates range from 5 weeks to 15 weeks depending on background. My background is related but I've never taken a formal study guide course, so I'm probably starting at an intermediate level.
I've been using the ny real estate exam ny real estate license law & regulations 2 to gauge where I stand, and my initial diagnostic scores are around 57%. Also reading through ny real estate test to fill in the theory gaps.
For those who've been through it: did you study daily or more intensively in bursts? Did your practice scores accurately predict your real exam performance?
Same experience here. The ny real estate exam ny real estate license law & regulations 2 was what finally made it click for me — specifically the way it explains the reasoning rather than just giving answers. Took me 3 weeks of consistent practice but scores went from 67% to 80% by exam day.
Really helpful breakdown, thanks for sharing. I'm at week 2 of my NY Real Estate Exam prep and the study guide section is exactly where I'm struggling too. Going to try the approach you described and see if it moves my scores.
Bookmarking this. I'm still in the early stages of NY Real Estate Exam prep and threads like this are way more useful than generic study guides. The specifics about practice test are particularly helpful — that's the section I've been avoiding.
Congrats on passing! Can I ask — how many questions did the actual exam have compared to what the practice tests simulate? I've seen different numbers online and want to calibrate my timing during practice.
Good thread. One thing I'd add: don't try to cram the night before. I did 4 hours the night before my NY Real Estate Exam and I think it hurt more than helped. Your brain needs consolidation time. Light review or full rest is better.
